The 160-watt heating system can be used beneath all floor finishes and can act as primary or secondary heating depending on the individual circumstances and insulation of the area.
The UFH4U heating mats are pre-fabricated, self-adhesive mats with the 2.8 mm heating cable attached.
The heating mat is a mesh design, which allows the tile adhesive / levelling compound to bond to the existing floor. The heating cable is already pre-laid out and secured to the mesh mat at the required distance to achieve 160 watts/m2. The heating mats are easy and fast to lay.
Heating Mat KIT Specifications:
Heating mats are all 50 cm wide
Heating mats come in a Variety of lengths from 1.5m - 20m (covering 0.75m2 - 10m2)
The 'black' heating cable is 15 watts / linear metre
The 'black' heating cable is 2.8mm and Twin conducting with only 1 connection point
There is 3m of power cable extension
There is 100% adhesive backing on the heating mats for complete contact with sub-floor
The mesh can be cut to configure the mats to any shaped room
The 'black' heating cable must NOT be cut under any circumstances.
All the UFH4U heating mats have a fully self-adhesive backing providing complete contact with the sub-floor. The heating mats are installed cable facing downwards offering greater heating cable protection and therefore making finishing the floor far easier particularly if laying tiles.
We recommend you aim to cover between 90-95% of the 'free floor space' of the area you wish to heat to insure good coverage (link to how to measure up page).
If your area requires more than 2 mats a junction box will be required. . If the total wattage of your area exceeds the 3,600watt capacity of the UFH4U thermostat you will need to have your electrician fit a suitably rated electrical contactor.
The 160 watt systems will operate far more efficiently when used with insulation board (such as Marmox (link to Insulation board)). The use of insulation board minimises the transfer of cold up from the subfloor and the loss of heat down in to the subfloor.
Installation recommendations
If the floor finish is: 1. Tiles / stone: the tiles may be laid directly on top of the heating cable however, the entire heating cable must be encased in the flexible tile adhesive.
2. Wood, laminate, carpet, linoleum: the heating mats must be encased in 10mm of a flexible levelling compound first.
The tile adhesive / levelling compound act to evenly distribute and transfer the heat and protect the heating cable and floor finish
Installing the Heating mats
The UFH4U heating mats are very easy to install. Firstly make sure the sub floor is prepared and is clean, dry and secure. You can then start to lay the mat onto the sub floor - start at the thermostat and roll out the mat. When you get to the end of the area or when you need to change direction you cut the 'blue' mesh (do not cut the 'black' heating cable) to allow the mat to be rotated. The 'black' heating cable can also be stripped from the mesh in sections if required to navigate around corners. Continue this way until the available floor space is covered. If using more than one heating mat, start each mat near the thermostat so that each can be connected to the thermostat (connecting the mats in parallel).
Once you have finished laying the heating mat you install the floor probe in the conduit in a suitable position. Once you connect the thermostat and test that everything is working correctly, you are ready to install the floor finishing. If you are using ceramic tiles or stone flooring, you cover the heating cable with a flexible tile adhesive and then lay the flooring on top. If you are using wood, laminate, linoleum, carpet etc, you cover the entire heating mat with 10mm of flexible levelling compound first. Once the levelling compound has dried you can install the flooring.
For a more comprehensive guide to installing 'UFH4U' heating mats please see the relevant instruction manuals.
The recommended coverage is 85% or more of the 'Free Floor Space'. If the area requiring underfloor heating is larger than 10 m2 you will need to use additional underfloor heating mats (of the same wattage) to supplement your heating mat kit. Several mats can easily be installed in to the rear of the thermostat or via an electrical junction box (up to 3,600 watts with mats installed in parallel).
The underfloor heating mats have a fully self-adhesive backing providing 100% contact with the sub-floor and therefore making finishing the floor far easier. The mats are installed cable facing downwards.
The 160-watt underfloor heating mats kits should only be used in combination with other 160-watt mats plus a thermostat and floor sensor probe.
When used beneath a tiled floor, the tiles may be laid directly on top of the heating cable, however the entire cable must be encased in the flexible tile adhesive.
When used beneath any floor finish other than tiles (wood, laminate, vinyl, linoleum or carpet) the underfloor heating cable must be encased in 10mm of a flexible self leveling compound before the floor finish can be laid.
Any combination of underfloor heating mats can be used to provide the required 85% or more coverage in the area for heating. Several mats can easily be installed in to the rear of the thermostat or via an electrical junction box (up to a total of 3,600 watts).
The underfloor heating mats also have a fully self-adhesive backing providing complete contact with the sub-floor and therefore making finish the floor far easier. The heating mats are installed cable downwards.
