The 5mm Heating Cables is designed for use in the screed when finishing the concrete subfloor and are ideal for new builds. The in-screed cables are available in many sizes and allow you to adjust the amount of heat you generate per square meter to your requirements (from 100-200 watts/ m2).
The UFH4U in-screed heating cable is easy to install and can be used under tiles (up to 200 watts/ m2) or wood, laminate, linoleum or carpet finishes (up to 160 watts/ m2).
The In screed cable can be laid at any wattage (100-200 watts) according to the heating needs and the floor finish being laid. Once laid, the 5mm in-screed cable must be covered with a minimum of 65mm of screed.
5mm In-screed Cable Kit Specifications:
Heating cables come in a Variety of lengths from 10m - 150m
Output is 20 watts / m
The heating cable is 5mm and Twin conducting with only 1 connection point
There is 3m of power cable extension
The 5mm In screed Cable kits come with thermostat and floor sensor probe
The 5mm In-screed Heating Cable must NOT be cut under any circumstances
The heating cables can be laid at any wattage (100 -200watts/ m2) according to your needs and the floor finish.
Installation recommendations
If the floor finish is:
1. Tiles / stone:
a. You may use up to 200watts/ m2 beneath tiles / stone
2. Wood, laminate, carpet, linoleum:
a. We do not recommend you exceed 160watts/ m2 beneath these finishes
The In-screed cables must be encased in a minimum of 65mm of screed in finishing the floor. The finishing screed acts to evenly distribute and transfer the heat and protect the heating cable and floor finish
The tables below show the cable length (and spacing's) required to cover a variety of different room sizes (according to desired wattage).

We recommend you aim to cover between 90-95% of the 'free floor space' of the area you wish to heat to insure good coverage (how to measure up).
The Heating cables will operate far more efficiently when used with insulation board. This should be as per the building regulations. The use of insulation board minimises the transfer of cold up from the subfloor and the loss of heat down in to the subfloor
Installing the 5mm In-screed heating cables
The FH4U heating cables are easy to install. The subfloor must be sound. If laying a waterproofed membrane secure this as per the local building regulations. Plan the route of your 'Floorheating 4U' 5mm heating cable (planning to leave between 50mm free space from the edge of the wall). Lay out the metal fixing Strips. Layout the heating cable perpendicular to the metal fixing strips. Begin near the thermostat and leave 50mm from the wall free. Gradually follow the spacing in the fixing strips taking care to secure the heating cable well as you go and to maintain even spacing. When you have finished laying the heating cable and before applying the screed, make sure the entire cable is securely attached to the sub floor.
Once the heating cable is laid and checked, it must be covered with a minimum of 65mm of screed. Once the screed is dried the floor finish can be laid.
For a more comprehensive guide to installing 'FH4U' heating mats please see the relevant instruction manuals.
The spacing between the lengths of underfloor heating cable dictates the wattage per square metre you generate.
Any combination of cables can be used to provide the required 90-95% coverage in the area for heating. Several cables can easily be installed in paralell in to the rear of the thermostat or via an electrical junction box (up to a total of 3,600 watts).
When used beneath a tiled floor, the tiles may be laid directly on top of the heating cable, however the entire cable must be encased in the flexible tile adhesive.
When used beneath any floor finish other than tiles (wood, laminate, vinyl, linoleum or carpet) the heating cable must be encased in 10mm of a flexible self leveling compound before the floor finish can be laid.
If laying the 5mm In-screed heating cable at 200watts/m2 and your area is large than 15m2 you will need to use an additional heating cable to supplement the heating cable kit.
When combinations of heating cables are used they must all be laid at the same wattage/m2.
The 5mm in-screed heating cable are used to supplement a 5mm In-screed heating cable kit if you have an area larger then that covered by the largest cable (this will depend on the wattage you choose to generate).
